Here are the answers to a few questions we regularly get asked about this site
- Why does attempting to view my phonebook ask me to sign into facebook?
- TheOnlinePhoneBook.com uses facebook to get a list of your friends and checks that against our database of numbers. As facebook requires you to login to view your friends, so do we.
- Is The Online Phone Book safe?
- Yes! Please read our privacy policy if you have concerns. This site is as safe as using facebook its self.
- How do I use the phonebook page?
- Enter your own phone number in the your settings area at the top and then select a subset of your friends who you want to be able to view or download your number via this site. Also select the friends who's numbers you would like to view or download.
- I've changed my phonebook or personal settings, how do I save them?
- Select the save button appropriate to what you have just edited (your settings or your phonebook). The page will refresh and your settings will be stored with us and be there for you everytime you return to the site.
- What does "Request number" mean?
- Request number means that the particular friend has either not used the site before or has not stored a phone number with us. It may also mean they have chosen not to share their phone number with you. When you click on the link you can send a message to them on facebook asking for their number. You will not see any friends numbers in your download list where "request number" is displayed on the phonebook page.
- What does Updated followed by the date mean?
- This is good as it means this particular friends phone number will appear in your download list (if you have them set to "I want theirs"). It also lets you know the last time they made changes to their stored phone number. If the date is recent they may have a new number; you might want to update your phone!
- I've lost my phone! Can you help me get my numbers back?
- We sure can, thats what we're here for. Login and ensure that you have selected the friends whos numbers you have lost on the phonebook page and saved the settings. Then select download from the nav bar. You can download your numbers in a variety of formats to suit your needs from that page.
- What is a list of numbers?
- Exactly as it sounds; A list of your names and numbers on the screen. Ideal if you want to enter names and numbers into your phone manually
- What are numbers in CSV format?
- This is your phonebook downloaded to a file containing names and numbers, separated by a comma. For example: Joe Blogs,07777747223 Each entry is on a newline. This format is very versatile and can be read by many computers and mobile phones the world over.
- What are numbers in VCF or vCard format?
- The most useful format ever! Using software that comes with most modern phones and your computer you can provide the software with this file and it will restore your phonebook straight to your phone, no messing about!
